Sergeant Major Devon Lee is a native of  Northern, Virginia and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina in 1993.Upon completion of his initial training as a radio operator he was assigned to the 3rd Surveillance, Reconnaissance, Intelligence Group (SRIG) in Okinawa, Japan. There he served as a radio operator, team leader, and squad leader. In 1997, Sergeant Major Lee reported to Drill Instructor School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to Company L, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion. There he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. In 2000, Sergeant Major Lee reported to Officer Candidates School, Quantico, Va. There he served as a Sergeant Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, Drill Master, and Operations Chief.  In 2004, Sergeant Major Lee reported to the 3rd Force Service Support Group, Communication’s Company in Okinawa, Japan. There he served as the Operation’s Chief and Communication’s Chief.

In 2006, Sergeant Major Lee reported to the First Marine Division, First Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. There he served as the First Sergeant for Company C, and Headquarters & Service Company. In 2009, Sergeant Major Lee reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. There he served as the First Sergeant, Company D and Sergeant Major, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion. In 2011, Sergeant Major Lee reported to the 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Pendleton, Ca. There he served as the Inspector-Instructor, Sergeant Major. In 2013, he reported to the First Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 in Okinawa, Japan. There he served as the Squadron Sergeant Major and Aviation Combat Element Sergeant Major, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.

In 2015, Sergeant Major Lee reported to the III MEF Headquarters. There he simultaneously served as the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III MEF Headquarters Group, and Camp Hansen Sergeant Major. In 2016, Sergeant Major Lee reported to Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1). In 2018, Sergeant Major Lee reported to his current duty as the Sergeant Major for Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and the Western Recruiting Region. Sergeant Major Lee’s major deployments include two tours in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, and four humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief deployments to the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

His personal awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (with two gold stars), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with two golds stars), the Navy and Marines Corps Achievement Medal (with three gold stars) and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He is authorized to wear the Presidential Service Badge.
