Sergeant Major Kabiru M Labaran

Sergeant Major Labaran is currently serving as the Command Senior Enlisted for Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and Western Recruiting Region. 
 
Sergeant Major Labaran enlisted into the Marine Corps in September 1998 and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. Upon graduation, Sergeant Major Labaran proceeded to Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California and then to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for the Cannon Crewman's Course. Upon completion, he earned the Military Occupation Specialty of 0811 Field Artilleryman.
 
Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Labaran has executed numerous assignments across the globe in both the Fleet Marine Force and supporting establishment roles. His Fleet Marine Force Artillery Assignment includes, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, III Marine Division, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; 1st Battalion and 2d Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, Camp Pendelton, California; Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2d Marine Logistic Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; 1st Radio Battalion, I MIG, Camp Pendleton, California; Marine Light Attach Helicopter Training Squadron 303, MAG 39. Camp Pendleton, California. His supporting establishment and training assignments include Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego; Southern University Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Marine Combat Training Battalion East, Camp Geiger, North Carolina and Marine Forces Reserve/Marine Forces South, New Orleans, Louisiana.
 
Sergeant Major Labaran has held many leadership billets throughout his tenure. With the Artillery community, he served as Howitzer Section Chief, Guns Platoon Sergeant, Battery Gunnery Sergeant and Battery First Sergeant. On special duty, he shaped the future of the force serving as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Instructor Staff at Drill Instructor School, as well as Assistant Marine Officer Instructor. He also served as Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Hotel Company, Marine Combat Training Battalion - East; Headquarters Company, Combat Logistic Regiment 25 and Headquarters Company, 1st Radio Battalion. His assignments as a Command Senior Enlisted Leader include 1st Radio Battalion; I MIG; Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 303, MAG 39; and Headquarters Battalion Marine Forces Reserve, Marine Forces South and Marine Corps Support Facility, New Orleans.
 
Sergeant Major Labaran's Combat History includes Operations Iraqi Freedom (Initial Action) - 1st Battalion 11th Marines, Operation (March 2003 -July 2003), Operations Iraqi Freedom (Vigilant Resolve) - 1st Battalion 11th Marines (April 2004 - September 2004), Operations Iraqi Freedom - 1st Battalion 11th Marines (March 2008 - July 2008), Operations Enduring Freedom - 1st Battalion 11th Marines (April 2010 -Nov 2010).
 
Sergeant Major Labaran's professional military and civilian higher education includes Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education and Cornerstone. His civilian academic achievements include earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Southern University and A&M College, and a Master of Business Administration from East Carolina University.
 
Sergeant Major Labaran's personal award includes the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with one star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
