Recruits of Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, pratice holding their newly-issued rifles correctly during Rifle Issue at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, March 23. From the beginning of training, recruits familiarize themselves with the weapon and as training progresses; they will learn more about its functions and will undergo additional more advanced training. A Marine Corps belief is that all Marines regardless of gender, age or military occupational specialty are proficient in weapons handling and employment which makes ‘every Marine a rifleman.’ Today, all male recruits recruited from recruiting stations west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training over 16,000 recruits annually. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate June 12.
