Lieutenant Colonel Hollenbeck was born in Denver, raised in Southern California and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from the University of Colorado in June 2004. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 2005 and completed the Basic School and the Public Affairs Qualification Course in 2006.

Hollenbeck reported to II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C., and deployed to Iraq from January 2007, to February 2008. While deployed, he served as the media officer for Multi National Force-West, as aide de camp to the ground combat element commander, and was promoted to first lieutenant in December 2008.

In May 2008, Hollenbeck transferred to Camp Pendleton, Calif., where he served as the public affairs officer for the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. With the MEU, he completed the Winter Mountain Leaders Course, was promoted to captain January 2010, participated in extensive sea and land-based amphibious training exercises and deployed to the Western Pacific, Middle East and Horn of Africa regions twice.

In July 2012, Hollenbeck reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, where he served as a series commander, company executive officer and company commander in 2nd Recruit Training Battalion. He then served as Assistant Director of Drill Instructor School.

Selected to attend San Diego State’s military public affairs program in June 2015, he was promoted to Major February 2016, and earned a Master of Arts degree in Public Relations and Accreditation in Public Relations and Military Communication in June 2016.

In August 2016, Hollenbeck began a yearlong tour as the 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade’s public affairs officer in Okinawa, Japan.

He was selected to attend and received a Master of Arts degree in Defense and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in June 2018.

In July 2018 Hollenbeck executed orders to Marine Forces Reserve in New Orleans La., where he served as the Communication Strategy and Operations Deputy and Operations Officer and for both MARFORRES and MARFORNORTH.

Hollenbeck checked into 1st Marine Division July 2021, where he served as the COMMSTRAT Director and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

From July 2022 to June 2023 Hollenbeck was assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force as Assistant Chief of Staff for COMMSTRAT.

LtCol Hollenbeck is a husband, father of two and resides in Oceanside Calif.
