Recruits of Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, spar against each other during the Pugil Sticks I event at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Feb. 10. This is one of the few opportunities during recruit training when recruits are allowed and encouraged to use full physical force against another recruit. Pugil Sticks II, III and the Crucible are the only other opportunities. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Alpha Company is scheduled to graduate April 22.
