Private Toosaint P. Mitchell, Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, attaches a rappel rope to himself during the rappel tower event at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Jan. 22. Drill instructors taught the recruits how to properly fasten the ropes prior to participating in the event. Mitchell is afraid of heights, but he managed to complete the event along with the other recruits. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego.
