Lieutenant Colonel Sarah B. Lenz Commanding Officer, Support Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego

Lieutenant Colonel Lenz graduated from Elizabethtown College in 2000 where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.  She was subsequently commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in December 2000.  Following initial training at The Basic School and Personnel Administration School, Lieutenant Colonel Lenz was assigned as the G-1 Adjutant, 3D Force Service Support Group in Okinawa, Japan. 

In 2003, Lieutenant Colonel Lenz transferred to MCRD Parris Island, where she served as a Series Commander and Company Commander, 4th Recruit Training Battalion and Regimental Adjutant, Recruit Training Regiment.  During this tour, Lieutenant Colonel Lenz earned a Masters in Justice Administration from Norwich University. 

In 2006, she was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 26 as the Adjutant.  During this tour, Lieutenant Colonel Lenz deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Adjutant for Marine Aircraft Group 26 (Reinforced). 

In 2009, Lieutenant Colonel Lenz transferred to 1st Marine Logistics Group and served as the G-1 Manpower Officer.  During this tour, she deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Staff Secretary for 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward). 

In 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Lenz reported to Marine Barracks Washington, D.C.  She first served as the Deputy Director, Distance Learning and Technology Department and then as the Barracks Adjutant.  Additionally, during this tour, she was assigned as a White House Social Aide and marched in the 2013 parade season as a Parade Commander. 

In 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Lenz attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College, earning her Masters in Military Studies and was subsequently assigned to 2d Marine Division as the Deputy G-1 from July 2015 until May 2018.

Lieutenant Colonel Lenz’ personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one bronze star.
