MCRD San Diego continues to employ force health protection actions and safeguarding essential personnel to ensure we can accomplish our missions. This includes closing access to the installation for non-essential personnel and families to safeguard the health of recruits and training personnel. Public recruit graduation week events have been modified until the risk of COVID-19 has decreased nationally. Confirmed and high-risk potential patients of COVID-19 are currently in quarantine, and we are closely following all guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Nonessential personnel have been granted the authority to telework to ensure our mission of “Making Marines” can continue. As recruits arrive to the depot in the future, they will enter a staging period of 14 days during which they will be medically screened, monitored and provided classes to prepare and orient them to begin recruit training. All of this will occur before they step onto our iconic yellow footprints and make that memorable move toward earning the title Marine. Current planning and execution remain fluid as the situation continues to evolve.

The health and well-being of recruits, recruiting and training personnel, and their families remain our primary concern. We are keeping our personnel well informed regarding protective actions to minimize transmission, and the state-of-the art Navy medical testing capabilities are being used. Your recruits remain our top priority, and they are in good hands.

The Department of Defense has extended the travel ban until 30 June. This restriction will be reviewed every 15 days by DoD personnel.
Graduations will remain closed to the public until further notice. If you are holding onto a reservation or making travel arrangements with a future graduation in mind based on the initial travel ban, please understand that until there is a change in policy the public will not be allowed to attend. New Marines will continue to ship directly to the School of Infantry/Marine Combat Training after graduation.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the pandemic together. When a change is made to base access allowances, graduations, or leave for new Marines, it will be shared officially on this page and the depot website. 

We must all understand the importance of protecting the force and, as a Marine Corps, continue to be the “most ready when the nation is the least ready.”

- Graduating Marines will go directly to School of Infantry without leave.

As part of the efforts to protect the health and welfare of the force, it is essential to support measures to reduce occupancy of various public spaces aboard Marine Corps Installations.  In furtherance of this goal, the Depot Command Museum, and MCCS facilities, inclusive of the gym and PX aboard this installation are closed to all non-permanent personnel until such time as health conditions permit wider use by visiting service members and the public. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate your support as we work to balance our critical military training mission with our obligations to ensure the safety of all who transit through this installation.

Effective  Friday, March 20 at midnight, MCRD Gate Hours of Operation will shift to:
Gate 2 (Barnett Avenue) CLOSED
Gate 4 (Old Town Avenue) CLOSED
Gate 5 (Washington Street) 24/7

Effective Saturday, 21 March 2020 until further notice, all Marine Corps Community Services departments will be closed. Counseling services at Marine And Family Programs will be available via mobile contact. All information on closures is posted on: www.mccsmcrd.com and on MCCS MCRD Facebook.
