MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Colonel Jennifer Shaar is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana. She is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1992.
Colonel Shaar's leadership assignments include Service Company Commander, HQSVCBN, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Atlantic; Finance Officer, Marine Corps Base Henderson Hall; Finance Officer for the National Capitol Region, Marine Corps Base Quantico; and Commander, Region-1 for Eastern Europe and Eurasia, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group.
Colonel Shaar has served as a financial management officer in both operational and support commands. Her billets include Battalion Fiscal Officer for, HQSVCBN, U. S. Marine Corps Forces Atlantic; Contingency Management Officer and Military Pay Policy Officer, Headquarters Defense Finance and Accounting Service; Deputy Comptroller, Marine Corps Base, Quantico; Comptroller, 3d Marine Division; Civil Military Affairs Officer in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 1st Marine Division; Program Objective Memorandum (POM) Branch Head, G-8, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command.
She has served at the Headquarters, Marine Corps and Department of the Navy level. Her billets include the Contingency Budget Officer, Budget Division, Programs and Resources, HQMC; Congressional Appropriations Liaison for the Marine Corps, Department of the Navy (Financial Management and Budget); Director, Comptroller Division, Marine Corps Combat Development Command and Director, Fiscal Division, Programs and Resources, HQMC.
Colonel Shaar is a graduate of the Naval Post Graduate School where she earned a M.S. in Management and the U.S. Army War College where she earned a M.A. in Strategic Studies. She was also served as a Congressional Fellow, representing the Marine Corps on Capitol Hill.
