Staff Sgt. Joshua M. Cardona, chief drill instructor, Receiving Company, Support Battalion, gives a recruit instructions during receiving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, May 23. Recruits are required to follow all instructions from drill instructors throughout the course of training. In the following week of receiving, they will conduct an initial strength test, undergo medical screenings and immunizations and learn the basic rules of recruit training. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Alpha Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 19.
