Gen. Fang Fenghui, chief of the general staff, People's Republic of China, renders a salute with Brig. Gen. James W. Bierman, Jr., commanding general, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and Western Recruiting Region. During Fang's May 14 visit aboard the depot, he watched recruits march, perform rifle manual in their squad bays and witnessed recruits train at the bayonet assault course. There were approximately 22 other visitors from the People's Republic of China who accompanied Fang and were able to view the making of Marines at the depot.  Bierman guided Fang through the entirety of his
visit and gave detailed answers to all questions pertaining to the Marine Corps and the depot.
