Sergeant Major Bobby Clark III

Sergeant Major, First Recruit Traning Battalion

Sergeant Major Clark enlisted in the Marine Corps on October 1989 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC.  After graduation in January of 1990, Private First Class Clark completed the Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. In April of 1990 Private First Class Clark reported to Marine Corp Communications and Electronics School, Twenty Nine Palms, California, for the Field Radio Operators Course. Upon completion, Private First Class Clark was promoted to Lance Corporal while stationed in Okinawa, Japan in July 1990. 

From 1991 to 1995 Corporal Clark was assigned to 7th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as a Radio Operator. In July of 1995, Corporal Clark reported to Ground Security Forces, Guantanamo Bay Cuba.  During this tour he served as Platoon Sergeant and Radio Supervisor. In 1996 Corporal Clark received orders to 8th Communication Battalion, Alpha Company, where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. 

In May 1999, Sergeant Clark was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After completion of the Communication System Chief Course, Staff Sergeant Clark was assigned to Bravo Company, 8th Communications Battalion and served as the Radio Chief.

In July 2002, Staff Sergeant Clark reported to 5th Marine Regiment, First Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA.  During this tour Staff Sergeant Clark served as the Radio Chief for  Headquarters Company and as the Radio Chief for Regimental Combat Team Five, Forward Element during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. 

In July 2004 Staff Sergeant Clark received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Upon graduating he served as Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor with Echo Company, Second Recruit Training Battalion. In August 2005 he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and transferred to Fox Company, where he served as Chief Drill Instructor until January of 2007. In March 2007, Gunnery Sergeant Clark reported back to Echo Company and served as the Company First Sergeant until September 2007.

In October 2007, Gunnery Sergeant Clark reported to 9th Communications Battalion, Alpha Company, where he served as Company Gunnery Sergeant and Battalion Camp Commandant at Camp Fallujah during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 8.2.

In May 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Clark was promoted to First Sergeant and reported to 4th Civil Affairs Group, Inspector-Instructor, Site Support, Washington, D.C. where he served as the Site Support First Sergeant and served as acting Sergeant Major.

In September 2012, First Sergeant Clark reported to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines where he served as Quebec Battery First Sergeant in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 13.2. In April 2014, First Sergeant Clark served as Headquarters Battery First Sergeant until his selection to Sergeant Major and continued to serve as the Sergeant Major for 5th Battalion, 11th Marines.

Sergeant Major Clark’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
