Marine Band San Diego Ensembles

The fifty Marines of Marine Band San Diego perform in a variety of ensembles, ranging from a full concert band to a brass quintet.

Concert Band

The Concert Band, consisting of some fifty Marines, is the largest performing ensemble within Marine Band San Diego. Performing in large indoor and outdoor venues, its repertoire consists of military marches, orchestral transcriptions, and works composed specifically for wind ensemble. Concert Band performances often feature solo instrumentalists with band accompaniment or performances by one or more of the Marine Band San Diego Small Ensembles such as the Jazz Combo or the Party Band. Marine Band San Diego‟s annual concerts are highlighted by its winter and summer concert series aboard the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, and throughout the Southern California area for audiences as large as 20,000 people.

 Ceremonial Band

Comprised of 30-40 Marines, the Ceremonial Band performs for military and civilian ceremonies, parades, and small concert settings. The ensemble plays a wide variety of music to include such world renowned composers as Alford, Fillmore, Goldman, and of course the ?March King? himself, John Phillip Sousa. As Marine Band San Diego‟s most active ensemble, they can be seen annually at the Tournament of Roses Parade, Northern California Scottish Highland Games, and local San Diego Chargers' and Padres' home game.

 Brass Quintet

The Brass Quintet adds the perfect touch of class to any event. Its versatility and professionalism enables it to perform in many venues, including schools, banquets, military ceremonies, and formal concerts. The Brass Quintet has an extensive repertoire, including standard classical literature, dixieland favorites, and even pop hits from the '80s.

 Woodwind Quintet

The Woodwind Quintet can be called upon to play for community recitals, military ceremonies, educational outreach concerts, and just about anything else that the situation demands. This versatile ensemble can play selections from Irving Berlin to John Phillip Sousa, and adds elegance to any Marine Band performance.

 Jazz Combo

The Jazz Combo performs a wide variety of jazz charts at receptions, military ceremonies, and schools throughout the country. The members of the combo play music from all eras of recorded Jazz ranging from Real Book standards and original compositions, to contemporary jazz.

 Contemporary Music Ensemble

The Contemporary Music Ensemble is a fresh take on the traditional military band setting with a wide range of rock tunes spanning from Classic Rock bands like Led Zepplin to recent pop sensation, Chris Daughtry. This highly entertaining rock group has performed for educational outreach concerts around the country, and will continue to seize opportunities for community entertainment in the future.

 Party Band

The Party Band offers a diverse array of musical selections ranging from jazz, dixieland, pop, blues, and authentic "New Orleans brass band," making it one of Marine Band San Diego‟s most flexible and adaptable small ensembles.

Brass Choir

 Saxophone Quartet
Consisting of four talented musicians, the Saxophone Quartet provides a different twist to the Marine Corps Music Program. Performing primarily for military functions such as receptions, educational clinics, holiday events, and much more the Saxophone Quartet covers a wide variety of music.
