Lieutenant Colonel Voneida currently serves as the Commanding Officer, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.
Lieutenant Colonel Voneida was born in September 1974 in Quantico, Virginia. Following graduation from Midway High School, Hewitt, Texas in June 1992, he attended the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island. In May 1997, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. In March of 1998, Lieutenant Colonel Voneida graduated from The Basic School. In September of 1998, he graduated from the Communications Information Systems Officer Course and reported to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28, 2nd Marine Air Wing (2nd MAW), Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina for duty as a Multi-Channel Radio Platoon Commander. From September 2000 to September 2001, Lieutenant Colonel Voneida served as a Test Director for the Marine Corps Operational Test and Evaluation Activity. In September of 2001, he was assigned as the Information Systems Management Officer for 2nd MAW.
In June of 2002, Lieutenant Colonel Voneida reported to the Commander Amphibious Task Force 76 (CTF-76), Sasebo, Japan where he was assigned as the U.S.S. Essex Marine Communications Detachment Commander. While with CTF-76 and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), Lieutenant Colonel Voneida completed four deployments within the Pacific Command Area of Operations and participated in multiple training exercises throughout the theater.
In June of 2004, Lieutenant Colonel Voneida reported to the I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF), Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California where he was assigned to the G-6. In September of 2004, he deployed to Iraq with I MEF and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as the G-6 Watch Officer and Forward Command Post S-6 Communications Officer until the redeployment of I MEF in March 2005. Upon return from Iraq, Lieutenant Colonel Voneida assumed command of Charlie Company, 9th Communications Battalion.
In June of 2007, Lieutenant Colonel Voneida reported to the Defense Information Systems Agency Pacific (DISA PAC) at Ford Island, Hawaii for duty as the Chief of the Contingency and Exercise Branch. While assigned to DISA PAC, he deployed to the Philippines in support of the Joint Special Operations Task Force - Philippines and to Bahrain and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In August of 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Voneida reported to the 3d Marine Logistics Group (3d MLG), Camp Kinser, Okinawa where he served as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff G-6. In December of 2010, he assumed command of Communications Company, 3d MLG. In September of 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Voneida reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 37 (CLR-37) for duty as the Regimental Executive Officer. While assigned to CLR-37, Lieutenant Colonel Voneida served as the Deputy Commander of the Joint Civil Military Operations Task Force during Exercise Cobra Gold 2013. During the exercise, he oversaw the construction of five school buildings and provided medical and dental services at seven locations throughout the Kingdom of Thailand.
In July of 2013, Lieutenant Colonel Voneida reported to Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps in the Pentagon where he served as a Deputy Division Chief within the Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4) Directorate.
Lieutenant Colonel Voneida is a graduate of The Basic School, Communications Information Systems Officer Course, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, Expeditionary Warfare School, Command and Staff College, and the Joint Forces Staff College. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. Lieutenant Colonel Voneida is married and he has two children.
