Sergeant Major, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot
Sergeant Major Michael R. Reyes Sr

Sergeant Major Reyes was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and reported to recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California in October 1998.  After receiving training at Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry West, he received follow on training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida and Marine Heavy Helicopter Training Squadron 302, Fleet Replacement Enlisted Skills Training, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River, North Carolina, where he received the military occupation specialty of 6323.

In November 1999, he reported to Marine Heavy Helicopter (HMH)-466, MCAS Miramar, San Diego, California, to serve as an avionics technician.  While serving under 3d Marine Aircraft Wing, Sergeant Major Reyes completed two consecutive Unit Deployment Program (UDP) deployments to Okinawa, Japan in 2000 and served as the driver for the 3d Marine Aircraft Wing Commanding General before being discharged from active duty in October 2003 and assigned to the Individual Ready Reserves. 

Sergeant Major Reyes re-enlisted into the Marine Corps in September 2008 and reported to HMH-461, MCAS New River, North Carolina.  While assigned to HMH-461, he served as the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (SNCOIC) for the avionics division.  He deployed with the Security Cooperation Marine Air Ground Task Force in October 2009 and Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 266 Reinforced as the CH-53E avionics detachment SNCOIC, in support of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM from September 2010 until May 2011, before returning to HMH-461.

In April 2012, Sergeant Major Reyes requested and received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon graduation, he reported to Company H, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, Battalion Operations Chief, and Company First Sergeant for Company H, before transferring to Drill Instructor School to serve as a Squad Instructor and Drill Master until June 2015.

In July 2015, he reported to HMH-466 where he served as a Quality Assurance Representative and Quality Assurance Chief, deploying on a UDP to Okinawa, Japan from November 2015 to May 2016. 

In May 2017, Sergeant Major Reyes reported to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California, and served as the Company First Sergeant for Company B and Engineer Support Company, before transferring to 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, to serve as the Company F, Company First Sergeant.  During this time, he deployed with the Battalion Landing Team in support of the 31st MEU in June 2018 and the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force, Crisis Response 20.2 in support of OPERATION RESOLUTE SUPPORT in April 2020.

In April 2021, he reported to Company M, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California to serve as the Company First Sergeant before transferring to 1st Recruit Training Battalion in September 2021 where he currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Reyes' personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award.
