Recruits of Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, climb the Stairway to Heaven obstacle during the Confidence Course at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Sept. 1. The high obstacle portion of the Confidence Course allows recruits to face any fear of heights and gain a sense of accomplishment from completing the obstacle. Today, all males from west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually. Echo Company is scheduled to graduate Oct. 30.
