Lieutenant Colonel Ashinhurst currently serves as the Commanding Officer for Third Recruit Training Battalion.
Lieutenant Colonel Ashinhurst graduated from the Naval Academy in 2004 and subsequently remained assigned as an Assistant Sprint Football Coach. Following the 2004 season, he attended The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia where he was designated an Armor Officer.
In 2005, he reported to 1st Tank Battalion where he served as a Platoon Commander and Executive Officer in Company A from 2005 to 2008. Following his tour at 1st Tanks, Lieutenant Colonel Ashinhurst served as a Series Commander and Company Commander in 2nd Recruit Training Battalion at MCRD Parris Island from 2009 to 2011. In 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Ashinhurst attended Maneuver Captain’s Career Course in Fort Benning, Georgia.
In 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Ashinhurst was reassigned to 1st Tank Battalion. He was assigned an individual augment billet with 1st Marine Division (fwd) as Task Force Leatherneck. On the Division staff he held the billets of the G-3 Senior Watch Officer and the G-3 Current Operations Plans, Officer-in-Charge. In 2012, he assumed command of Company D, 1st Tanks where he remained until 2014.
In 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Ashinhurst was assigned to the Operations Division, Plans, Policies, and Operations. He served as the Counterinsurgency and Stability Operations Coordinator in the Ground Combat Element Branch. In 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Ashinhurst was assigned as the Aide-de-Camp to the 36th and 37th Commandants of the Marine Corps. In July of 2016, he was assigned to 1st Tank Battalion where he held the billet of Battalion Operations Officer. In 2017, he deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Future Operations Officer. Upon re-deployment, he attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS.
Lieutenant Colonel Ashinhurst’s personal awards include the Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device, the Meritorious Service Medal (2d Award), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3d Award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon (2d Award). He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from USNA and a Masters of Military Art and Science from the USA Command and General Staff College.
