#CC0000

A recruit of Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, descends a rappel tower at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Feb. 2. One of the techniques learned was how to apply a “brake hand,” which is used to adjust the speed while descending the tower. The recruits were given gloves to protect their hands as well as to serve as an extra grip on the rope and a helmet and harness were worn for safety. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Kilo Company is scheduled to graduate March 16.
