Marines with a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program Instructor Course, Class 3-18, prepare to enter a confidence chamber at Marine Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 26. The event consisted of different obstacles and physical challenges which allowed the Marines to use their MCMAP techniques to complete them. At the end of the course the Marines earned a tab signifying the completion of the next level in the MCMAP curriculum. Recruits from Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion
Recruits from Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, float at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Feb. 20. The recruits were required to tread water for four minutes to enable them to move on to the next portion of the basic water survival test. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate April 20.
Recruits from Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion
Recruits from Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, move as a fire team through a training event during the Crucible at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 7. Recruits had to work as a team during the 54-hour event to accomplish every task given to them by their instructors. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Mike Company is scheduled to graduate Feb. 23.
Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion
A recruit of Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, descends a rappel tower at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Feb. 2. One of the techniques learned was how to apply a “brake hand,” which is used to adjust the speed while descending the tower. The recruits were given gloves to protect their hands as well as to serve as an extra grip on the rope and a helmet and harness were worn for safety.
